A real change at the borders of the Schengen area: from 2023, the European Union will impose a compulsory document for free movement. Called Etias, for European Travel Information and Authorization System, the system will track visitors who do not need a visa, explains the Schengenvisa site.

The idea behind this device is not new. In 2016, then European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said: “We need to know who is crossing our borders. This way we will know which people are traveling to Europe even before they get here.” Faced with terrorism and the migrant crisis, the European Union wants better management of border entries. The primary objective is therefore to ensure the safety of travelers and speed up procedures.

Thanks to this system, the collection of information and data will make it possible to intercept any threat to the security of the countries concerned. A total of 60 countries will need to go through this system. Here they are :
