The best press cartoons on the rivalry between Emmanuel Macron and Jean-Luc Mélenchon

Third man in the last presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon quickly got back in the saddle for the battle of the legislative elections which take place on June 12 and 19. The leader of France Insoumise went on a campaign with the aim of uniting the left under his banner. The latter succeeded in convincing the PCF and EEVL to form a coalition. This is how the Nupes (New Popular Economic and Social Union) was born.

Since the evening of the second round of the presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon has hammered home his wish to be elected Prime Minister. However, Emmanuel Macron has already chosen to appoint Elisabeth Borne as head of government last Monday. If the wish of the strong man of France Insoumise seems compromised, he still has a scenario that allows him to overthrow the successor of Jean Castex. According to the results of the legislative elections, if Nupes wins an absolute majority, the Matignon tenant could easily be overthrown by the hemicyle. Jean-Mélenchon could then force Emmanuel Macron to set up cohabitation by appointing him Prime Minister.

According to the OpinionWay-Kéa Partners barometer for Les Echos unveiled this Wednesday, May 18, the left alliance would be left behind by the presidential majority in voting intentions. The Nupes is credited with 24% of the votes on average, on the whole of the territory, against 27% for the banner bringing together all the formations which support Emmanuel Macron.
