Spanish households spent 30.243 euros on average in 2019, 1.2% more than a year before, and have recovered the level of expenditure that they had 10 years ago . The largest disbursements were in education, health and housing.

this Is the fifth consecutive year of rise after the sharp declines that accumulated spending by households over six years (2009-2014), according to the Survey of Family Budgets released this Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The average expenditure per person was 12.151 euros, with an increase of 1.1% compared to 2018.

The items that registered the greatest growth were the teaching , which recorded an annual rate of 4.3% due to the rise in the spending on higher education; health , with a variation of 3.8% for the increase in spending on all its components; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels , with a rate of 2.8% with respect to 2018 derived from the spending increases widespread and transport , with a variation of 2.6%, driven by increased spending on the purchase of vehicles.

For its part, the groups in which more decreased the average household expenditure were clothing and footwear, whose spending dropped 3.1% and furnishings, household items and items for the routine maintenance of the home, with a rate of -3% from 2018.

with regard to the distribution of the average expenditure of the households, the largest share is concentrated in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with an average expenditure of 9.441 euros , which accounted for 31.2% of the total budget of the household; food and non-alcoholic beverages, to which households spent 4.286€, 14.2% of the budget ytransporte, with an average expenditure of 3.888 euros, 12.9% of the total.

Likewise, the autonomous communities with the greatest average expenditure per person in the year 2019 were the Basque Country (14.524 euros), Comunidad de Madrid (14.284) and the Foral Community of Navarre (13.640). By contrast, Extremadura (9.484 euros), Canarias (9.851), and Castilla-La Mancha (10.394) registered the lowest average expenses per person.

The average expenditure per person in País Vasco was 19.5% greater than the national average, while that of Extremadura stood 22% below that average.

According to the INE, a party is “increasingly significant” consumption expenditure of the households is done through the tnternet. In 2019, 32.5% of the households performed some spending through web platforms, compared with the 30.3% of the previous year.

In particular, the expenditure made by households via the internet was of 11.782 billion euros, which accounted for 2.1% of the total expenditure and an increase of 12.5% compared to 2018.

Likewise, the total expenditure of households through the Iinternet in 2019 is focused on three main groups: recreation and culture, which represented 28.6% of total expenditure and it is worth noting the expenditure in package tours, with a weight of 10.2%; transportation, whose spending across the network was a 22.9 per cent of the total, and restaurants and hotels, where the expenditure represented 19.8% of the total spending by the Internet.
