The strengthening of the foundations continues at the Montreal Alouettes, who on Wednesday granted a one-season contract extension to Canadian receiver Tyson Philpot.

Philpot will thus be under contract with the Montreal club until the end of the 2025 season.

The receiver caught Cody Fajardo’s pass with 13 seconds remaining in the Gray Cup game, giving the Alouettes a 28-24 lead over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His winning touchdown allowed the team to win the eighth title in its history.

He finished the game with 63 yards on six catches and just as many yards on punt returns.

Dealing with a knee injury early in the season, the six-foot-one, 195-pound football player played in just 13 games, during which he amassed 532 yards on 47 receptions and scored five touchdowns. Philpot also had 146 yards on seven kickoffs.

In his first season in the Ambrosie circuit, in 2022, Philpot, of Delta, British Columbia, was a finalist for the CFL Most Outstanding Rookie award.
