Be warned: you only have two weeks left, until December 6 inclusive, to correct their 2023 tax return online.

To do this, nothing could be simpler: connect to the special area on the impots.gouv.fr website. Once connected, “you must click on “Access online correction” to correct errors or mention omissions,” indicates the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP). A service which is also available to households benefiting from the automatic declaration.

Among the possible corrections, you can modify the elements relating to dependents, income, expenses, tax reductions and credits or even the real estate wealth tax (IFI). You also have the possibility of adding or deleting additional declarations, such as the declaration for property income or that concerning capital gains. Technical precision: be careful to use a computer to carry out the corrections. “Correction of the online income tax return is not possible on a smartphone or tablet,” recalls the DGFiP.

Please note: conversely, certain elements cannot be modified directly behind a computer. This is particularly the case for details linked to marital status, family status, tax residence address on January 1, 2023, the designation of a trusted third party or even the addition of the address of a student attached to his parents’ tax household.

To change such parameters, two solutions are available to you: the first is to send by post a corrective income declaration to your public finance center “completed with an explanatory letter and accompanied by supporting documents indicating that this paper declaration cancels and replaces your first declaration made online,” specifies Bercy.

Another solution: use your secure messaging in your personal space on impots.gouv.fr, all by “clicking on the “Write” tab then selecting the form “I report an error in calculating my tax”, then “ My request concerns income tax or social security contributions”. “You can attach supporting documents by clicking on the “Add a document” button,” explains the DGFiP.

There are also some subtleties to take into account, especially if you have stayed with the paper version. There she is.

IF you used a paper form to complete their tax return this spring, you cannot use the online correction service. In this case, there is no choice… You must necessarily send a letter to your public finance center mentioning the elements to be modified, or file a corrective declaration. “In this case, you must indicate on the first page CORRECTIVE DECLARATION CANCELED AND REPLACED and re-enter all the elements to be declared, including the correct elements of the 1st declaration,” insists the tax administration.

If you missed the December 6 deadline, here’s also what you can do.

Please note that after December 6, the online declaration service will be closed by Bercy. However, it will always be possible to modify your declaration. How ? By making a complaint in your personal space on impots.gouv.fr, in the “I report an error in the calculation of my tax” section. Another option: send a letter to your public finance center indicating the reason for your complaint. A claim that it will be legally possible to make until December 31, 2025. If the correction to be made is particularly complex, one solution consists of going directly to your public finance center. To make an appointment, you must go through the “Contact” section in your personal online space.
