At the beginning of March, the long and painful period of negotiations between large retailers and manufacturers was coming to an end. In a highly inflationary context, supermarket brands are caught between, on the one hand, consumers who see their purchasing power melting like snow in the sun, and on the other hand, the producers of the agribusinesses who regularly demand significant price increases, justifying them by the drastic increase in production costs.
This stormy showdown led to a price increase on supermarket shelves, which would currently amount to 10%, as reported by our colleagues from Liberation. Some managers of large retailers denounce a lack of transparency on the part of manufacturers regarding increases in production prices: they therefore accuse them of inflating the scale of the problem in order to justify requests for an increase in the order. from 15% to 16% described as “delusional” by the boss of Carrefour, in particular.
At the end of February, the spokesperson for Lactalis told Radio Classique that the negotiations were extremely tense. He then said that he had only reached an agreement with 2 of the 5 major distribution networks. On the side of System U, its president Dominique Schelcher announced this March 27, 2023 exclusively to LSA that negotiations with the company Pepsico were definitely at a standstill, as reported by our colleagues from Capital.
While increases of 12% to 13% had already been granted to them in 2022, the company in question demanded a price increase of 14% to 15%, considered totally disproportionate by System U. This brand will therefore stop selling brands belonging to this group. Find all the affected products below.
