Swimming pool: the two cases where you do not need a building permit

The swimming pool, a French passion. It is estimated that nearly 3 million private swimming pools dot France, i.e. one for every 21 inhabitants, which makes the country the European champion in terms of home splashing.

And it’s not over: the swimming pool is the new El Dorado for many households, who, faced with increasingly hot temperatures in France, dream of a freshwater pond in their garden.

However, owning a private swimming pool is, unfortunately, not given to everyone. Already, the operation generates some significant costs. But above all, you have to comply with certain administrative rules that are sometimes very laborious in terms of construction.

If you want to install an in-ground swimming pool of more than 10 square meters at home, you will have to go to the town hall to complete a preliminary declaration of work. The municipality must indeed check that you comply with the town planning standards in force in the municipality.

In addition, if your pool plans to extend over more than 100 square meters, then you will need to apply for a building permit.

On the other hand, if you want to install an above-ground swimming pool in your home, you will generally not need to inform the town hall, and even less to declare your work.

The same applies if you want to dig a pool of water whose area would not exceed 10 square meters, insofar as it is not located in the following areas, specifies the site of the public service:
