In parallel with your basic pension, a supplementary retirement pension is calculated on the basis of points accumulated during your professional life. For future retirees, it is therefore obvious to think about the possibility of redeeming points. But how does this system work and what are the subtleties to know to get the most out of it?

Since 2004, private sector employees can redeem points for their supplementary pension, under certain conditions. In the case of Agirc-Arrco, retirement points are awarded to the insured on the basis of contributions. Among the prerequisites, it is possible to redeem points up to a limit of 140 points per year of higher education or incomplete years. There will also be a three-year limit. Your future redemption will be possible before you turn 67: it relates to the periods redeemed in the basic scheme and it must be carried out before the liquidation of your pension.

When you make your redemption request, you must be at least 20 years old when you apply. It is not essential to set up a total redemption for the points that correspond to the periods of study redeemed in the basic scheme. You can thus select a certain part of these periods. The redemption of the retirement point varies according to the value of the Agirc-Arrco point, your age at the time of redemption and the number of points you wish to redeem.
