At the gas pump, at home, at the supermarket… No place can withstand the inflation that is hitting the wallets of French consumers hard. In this very difficult period for everyone’s finances, Le Parisien notes that so-called “first price” products are becoming more and more successful on the shelves of supermarkets. In the columns of Ile-de-France, Emily Mayer, retail expert for the IRI Institute, explains: “Over the period January-April 2022, compared to the same period of 2021, consumer products fell by 4.1 % in volume, while the first prices jumped 5.5%”.

This is explained by the change in priorities of consumers, who are no longer seeking to please themselves but simply to maintain a decent standard of living by obtaining the essentials, as evidenced by a Kantar study which notes that 20% of people shop to the penny.

Are you also tempted to let yourself be seduced by private labels, which are cheaper but often just as good as branded products? To help you see what it would actually look like on your receipt, Planet has listed the prices of ten everyday products… comparing branded products (Paic, Harry’s, Tropicana, Signal…) and those from Carrefour ranges (Carrefour Extra, Carrefour Sensation, Carrefour Essentials, etc.)*. Discover our comparison in our slideshow below.

Prices were recorded on Monday July 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. on the official Carrefour website and are subject to change*.
