Abnormally long heat waves, thunderstorms of rare violence, severe drought… The summer of 2022 broke all imaginable weather records, and proved to be the second hottest in the country since at least 1900. expect similar conditions in 2023? Far from it, according to Patrick Marlière, meteorologist for Agate Météo. In a previous interview with Planet, the specialist explained that the summer season will be more like that of 2020, hot but without excess.
This year, the winter was particularly dry and the water tables are at the end of their resources. A historic record of 32 days without rain has been broken, worsening the drought situation already present in the territory. The first seasonal trends having been revealed, it would seem that summer is not going to be easy: temperatures well above seasonal averages are expected, as well as one or more heat waves. According to Christophe Person, head of the weather and climate service at BFMTV, “we would probably have at least one heat wave in the summer, which would be hotter than normal. But that does not mean that we would have as many as during of the year 2022”.
According to the first forecast models, we could have months from June to October with temperatures up to 2°C above the average for the season. According to a map unveiled by Météo Ciel, the anomalies could be even more notable in August, with values located 2 to 3°C above normal in a good part of France.
