(Paris) The Spaniard Paula Badosa, ex-N. 2 in the world today 29th, forfeited Thursday for the Roland-Garros tournament which begins on Sunday due to a stress fracture.

“In Rome I suffered a stress fracture in my spine,” the 25-year-old wrote on her social media, adding that she would not be able to play competitively “for several weeks.”

“It’s very bad news after such a difficult start to the season due to injuries,” she said.

Badosa notably missed the Australian Open in January with a thigh injury. She was then eliminated in the first round in Doha and Dubai. Then she had won only one match in Indian Wells as in Miami, before reaching the quarters in Charleston, Stuttgart and last week in Rome. Just before, she had been eliminated in the round of 16 in Madrid.

It was at Roland-Garros that she achieved her best Grand Slam result, reaching the quarter-finals in 2021.
