Storms all day: the 23 departments on alert

Like an impression of summer before its time. After a largely sunny weekend across the country, what is planned for the next few days? The meteorological summer will officially start this Thursday, June 1 and the weather will follow the trend, since according to Météo France “the heat will remain relevant”. Many departments will be prey to thunderstorms or even the risk of hail, which is why Météo France has placed 23 departments on storm alert from the start of the afternoon of this Wednesday, May 31. This list of affected territories is also available in our slideshow below.

Despite the expected arrival of many thunderstorms during the day of this Wednesday, May 31, the temperatures will not drop. As announced by Météo France, “showers, punctuated by thunderclaps from daybreak from the Alps to Languedoc-Roussillon. They spread during the morning towards Corsica, the Massif Central and Midi-Pyrénées where they can give good accumulations of precipitation, gusts of wind up to 80 km/h and hail in places. In the afternoon, these showers extend from the regions going from the Basque Country to the Jura massif but become rarer on the Mediterranean coast. The low morning clouds on the Channel coasts dissipate, giving way to fine clearings, the North-East wind remains sensitive, around 50 to 60 km/h in peaks. The sun is showing a once again very generous over the rest of the northern half of the country. At daybreak, the thermometer reads 9 to 14 degrees over the northern half of the country, from 14 to 18 further south. The maximum: 16 to 18 degrees along the Channel coast, from 24 to 28 everywhere else with peaks of up to 30 in Bordeaux”.
