(New York) St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has been suspended for two games by the NHL after he attacked Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman on Wednesday.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced the sentence Thursday.

The incident came with 7:35 left in the second period of the Wild’s eventual 8-5 win over the Blues. Binnington had just been beaten by Hartman, when the latter accidentally hooked him with his skate while trying to join his teammates in celebration.

Binnington left the goalie area and landed a shield kick to Hartman’s face. A scrum broke out and Binnington was eventually kicked out of the encounter.

In its explainer video, the Department of Player Safety mentions that Binnington’s actions represent acts of roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct.

Binnington will lose US$64,864.86 in salary. This amount will be donated to the players’ emergency fund.
