SQDC | An anti-scab provision not respected, according to a ministry investigator

(Montreal) Two branches of the SQDC allegedly contravened the anti-scab provisions of the Labor Code, by asking security guards to perform tasks for striking union members.

This is the conclusion reached by an investigator from the Ministry of Labor who was dispatched to two branches of the Société québécoise du cannabis, in Drummondville and that of Snowdon, in Montreal, following a complaint to this effect made by the union.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ, have been on strike for 11 months at the SQDC. Several branches are therefore affected by the unlimited walkout. Branches affected by a strike normally remain open and executives work there.

The complaints have passed the Ministry of Labor investigation stage, but have not yet been heard by the Administrative Labor Tribunal.

CUPE alleged in its complaint that security officers from an outside firm were carrying out the work of striking employees, asking customers for the order number and delivering the products to customers themselves.

Contacted on Tuesday, the SQDC confirmed having received the investigation reports from the Ministry of Labor, but it did not want to comment on them, preferring to take the time to analyze them.
