(Davos) Jonathan Hazen had two goals and an assist and Canada began its group stage with a 4-0 victory over Frölunda HC on Tuesday at the Spengler Cup.

Each year, the Spengler Cup, hosted by HC Davos, brings together European teams and a team made up of Canadian players.

Ty Smith scored and had two assists in the victory. Corban Knight scored the other goal for Canada.

Aaron Dell made 30 saves to post the shutout. At the other end of the ice, Frans Tuohimaa stopped 24 shots.

The Canadian team scored one goal in five power plays. Frölunda HC did not take advantage of any of its six numerical superiorities.

Last year, Canada lost in the quarter-finals.

The gold medal match will be played on Sunday.
