Smartphone: beware of these applications that can steal your Facebook password

Be extremely vigilant. This Friday, October 7, Meta issued a warning. Indeed, the parent company of Facebook has identified more than 400 malicious mobile applications, present on the official App Store (iOS) and Play Store (Android). One million people would have been exposed to these apps. “That doesn’t necessarily mean they were hacked,” David Agranovich, a director of Meta’s cybersecurity teams, told a news conference.

These applications have been developed with the aim of stealing the login credentials of their users’ Facebook accounts. “They’re just trying to trick people into giving up their confidential information to give hackers access to their accounts,” said David Agranovich. The latter believes that the developers of these applications were probably looking to recover other passwords, not just those of Facebook profiles. “Targeting seemed quite undifferentiated,” he noted. The goal seemed to “get as many IDs as possible”.

Meta has published the full list of 400 malicious applications on the GitHub platform. The US company also said it shared their discovery with Apple and Google. If Apple has not yet reacted, Google has already announced to AFP the withdrawal of most applications reported by Meta from its Play Store.

In a press release, published on the Meta site, David Agranovich detailed the six types of applications to be absolutely wary of, in particular those which ask to be identified with a social network before even having access to their main functions. .

In our slideshow below, discover the 6 types of mobile applications that you should not hesitate to delete from your smartphone.
