The Carrefour group was implicated in a video posted on Twitter showing many pallets of mustard stored in a warehouse. The person filming ensures that these are pallets intended for Carrefour stores, but that the order has been given not to deliver them. Purpose of the maneuver? Allegedly to make believe in the shortage and to inflate the prices. But the reality is quite different according to information collected by Franceinfo.

In this video shared thousands of times and extensively commented on on social networks, the man who films, and who says he works “in transport”, indicates that he “delivers to Carrefour stores”. But, strange thing according to him, pallets of mustard accumulate. “We can’t deliver them because we have orders to store them,” he says.

Questioned on social networks, the Carrefour group posted several messages in response, insisting on the difficulty of delivering certain products, “like Dijon mustard”. But the retail group ended up saying that after “internal investigation”, the palettes that we saw on the screen did not belong to it, ending up denouncing “a fallacious editing aimed at harming” the image. of Crossroads.

The owner of the palettes is Reine de Dijon. This Burgundy company, which is number three in mustard in France, has recognized its labels. The company explained to our colleagues that these pallets were sold to the Leclerc group and not to Carrefour. A surfer has also noticed Rustica pots, a Leclerc brand. One of the charges in the video no longer holds.

As for stockpiling to supply a shortage? According to the manufacturer, four orders have been consolidated into one, Leclerc preferring “6 to 7 trucks” suddenly than just one per week. A truck carrying about thirty pallets, it is not surprising to see so many on the video. Contacted by Franceinfo, Leclerc confirms the manufacturer’s words, stressing that it is “not surprising that several pallets find themselves in transit very occasionally on a platform while awaiting their dispatch” in the various points of sale.

Whether it’s mustard manufacturers or large retailers, all confirm that a shortage of mustard is indeed underway. The raw material coming mainly from Canada is running out.
