A worrying situation. While the winter drought has left damage to groundwater, the state of water reserves is increasingly worrying, so much so that in some municipalities, drinking water is already preparing to leave the taps. Indeed, in one of the departments most affected by drought, four municipalities will see, from this Friday, April 14, 2023, the end of drinking water in their homes.

If this is only temporary, the situation is still particularly worrying. This news fell on Wednesday April 12, 2023 when the SIAEP (Syndicat intercommunal d’adduction d’eau potable) of several cities announced that the level of drinking water drilling in the sector had reached its withdrawal threshold.

As a result, from April 14, a new connection will take over. Only, the running water will then become unfit for consumption and the inhabitants will therefore no longer be able to drink it or even wash their food. To deal with this situation, the municipalities have therefore announced that they will organize a distribution of bottles of drinking water at the rate of one pack of water per week and per inhabitant.

In the department of Pyrénées-Orientales, this situation had been feared for a few weeks since, on March 22, 2023, the prefect Rodrigue Furcy had warned that 16 municipalities could lack drinking water in the months to come, reports Actu.fr.
