(NYC) Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn will have a hearing before the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, the organization announced via its Twitter account Wednesday morning.

Benn and Vegas Golden Knights forward Mark Stone, both captains, collided near the blue line early in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night.

Stone went down and Benn cross-checked him hard, hitting him near the neck. Benn was sent off 1:53 after the initial face-off.

After the game, Stars head coach Peter DeBoer tried to make amends.

“Let’s tell it like it is. He made a mistake. He feels really bad about it. I don’t think anyone in the building feels worse than him about it, DeBoer said. I won’t overstate it, he’s been a leader here his whole career, and he’s a leader every day on and off the ice… Luckily Mark Stone is fine, and we have to live with the consequences. »

The Stars eventually lost the game 4-0, and are now down 3-0 against the Golden Knights in the Western final series. The next game will be on Thursday evening.
