Rogers | Former Minister Navdeep Bains joins the leadership team

(Ottawa) Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry in the Trudeau government, Navdeep Bains, joins the management team of Rogers, which recently got the green light from the government federal government to acquire Shaw.

Mr. Bains, who left politics ahead of the 2021 federal election, will become the CEO of Corporate Affairs at Rogers in mid-May.

This is a new position on the communications giant’s management team following the $26 billion acquisition of Shaw. Its mandate will be quite broad, including ensuring improved access to the internet in rural areas as well as in remote Indigenous communities.

In addition, Mr. Bains, who was one of the architects of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal victory in 2015, notably in Ontario, will be responsible for leading the company’s efforts in the area of ​​the digital economy and to implement various measures to reduce the company’s environmental footprint, among other things.

After his career in politics, Mr. Bains quickly made the leap into the private sector, notably working for CIBC as Vice Chairman, Investment Banking, Global Network.

Mr. Bains’ appointment was confirmed by Rogers Chairman and CEO Tony Staffieri on Thursday.

Rogers also made two other appointments to the management team. Thus, Zoran Stakic has been named Chief Transformation Officer. Prior to joining Rogers, Mr. Stakic spent the past five years as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Shaw. He has 25 years of experience in network technology, product development, business and technology operations, supply chain and information security, acquired at Sprint Canada and Shaw.

In his new role, Mr. Stakic will be called upon to work with the entire company to align Shaw and Rogers products and services, thereby facilitating the transition for customers.

For her part, Terrie Tweddle has been named Chief Brand and Communications Officer. In this new role, she will be responsible for strengthening the brand image of the company. She worked for Rogers from 2008 to 2020 before returning in the fall of 2022. Terrie has 25 years of experience in brand and reputation management, communications, public affairs and corporate social responsibility. .

“Over the past 16 months, our senior leadership team has been successful in turning around our performance, completing a historic merger with Shaw and driving significant market momentum. Today, I am pleased to add three new members to our senior leadership team who will play a critical role in our growth plan,” said Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers, in a Press release.
