In 2021, French motorists received 39.53 million fines. A record amount, according to the magazine Challenges, which explains this increase both by the lifting of health restrictions, and by the creation of new grounds for electronic verbalization. Radars, discriminators, turrets or even autonomous ones are being developed in the four corners of the country, making it possible to detect all offenses by drivers.
In April 2021, a brand new type of device was authorized: the “reward radar”, installed at the top of a traffic light. If the cars circulating are traveling at less than 30km/h – or 50km/h depending on the road -, the light will turn green… While those who do not respect the speed limit will see the light turn red.
