Brain teaser. In the National Assembly, the reversals of situation are linked… particularly on the question of pensions, which was the subject of amendments and counter-amendments this Tuesday, July 26, 2022, informs Le Parisien. The oppositions, carried by the proposal of the deputy Charles de Courson (Freedoms, Independents, Overseas and Territories) first voted a revaluation of 500 million euros more for retirement pensions. This was to complete the revaluation already decided by the government, of 4%.

However, explain our colleagues, this does not mean that retirees will really be entitled to it.

In fact, specifies the daily Francilien, the lifespan of this amendment will not have exceeded a few hours. A new amendment has indeed been presented, as foreseen by some elected officials interviewed by the press title. “Either the government mobilizes its troops and files an amendment at the end of the text to correct the situation, or it will be done in the Senate. It’s still an amendment to 500 million…”, testifies an elected Les Républicains.

Bruno le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, explained himself in detail about this new version. He indicated that the new amendment tabled was justified because the proposed revaluation was “financed by deducting the sums from the civil and military retirement pensions of the State”. The rejection of the First Amendment was made possible by an agreement between Les Républicains and the presidential formation.

The choice of financing mentioned is surprising but not impossible to explain: the deputy behind the initial amendment planned to make it a warning amendment, aimed at alerting the government. He did not envisage that it would be voted on… and therefore did not think of all the consequences that such a situation could have.
