Retirement: other rights that you should think about liquidating before departure

For the moment, the question of retirement is discreet. This cannot last, according to a recent post by economic columnist François Lenglet, published on the RTL website. Emmanuel Macron, he explains in the columns of our colleagues, is preparing to go into force and could well reform the model of inter-generational solidarity in France. Objective ? Get out of the economic crisis that is currently undermining the country. However, according to the Head of State, this cannot happen without a hint of reform. Moreover, the president risks losing political capital as time goes by. So we have to hurry.

This is enough to worry many working people who, as Planet has already had the opportunity to point out, could be tempted to rush their retirement. The phenomenon has already occurred during other reforms of this order, notably in 2003 or 2010. This time, the president has given up on upsetting the very structure of the pension system. It is therefore only a question of postponing the legal age of departure and encouraging French women and the French to a more sustained activity. The manner of acquiring or liquidating rights will not change.

Therefore, this means that it is still possible to prepare for the cessation of activity as before. And since it is a question of anticipating the steps to be taken, a question arises: what about your CPF? It is also full of rights that potentially belong to you.

The personal training account is a system of continuous professional training, recalls the economist Philippe Crevel, which allows workers to accumulate rights to training according to the level of their remuneration and their contributions. “It can be used by anyone in activity, in order to acquire a professional skill, for example”, continues the director of the Cercle de l’Epargne. And whatever one may think, this also concerns pensioners. Explanations.

The first question that most former workers who have already put an end to their professional activity will ask themselves is simple to understand: is it possible to recover the rights on this account to inflate their income or improve their quality of life ? Unfortunately, no, immediately decides Philippe Crevel.

“You cannot mobilize the rights collected on a CPF, any more than you can use them, when you are already retired. It is not possible to create new rights after the cessation of activity”, he recalls. With two exceptions: the case of combined employment and retirement and that of phased retirement. “The pensioners concerned can take advantage of the CPF to train and it is much more useful than one might think. It is better to liquidate your rights than to lose them”, observes the expert again. But what exactly is he talking about?

It is always more useful to liquidate your rights rather than lose them, believes Philippe Crevel. But what’s the point of training before you leave…retire? “In truth, it is an opportunity to prepare and therefore to facilitate his departure, in particular by learning a foreign language for those who wish to expatriate”, observes the specialist. “It is also very useful for anyone who might want to return to work after retirement. They can train in accounting, for example, which will considerably facilitate their work when the time comes”.

Please note, however, that it is not always possible to deduct training hours from working hours. “It all depends on the agreement reached with the employee”, specifies Philippe Crevel.
