The novelties and the changes follow one another on the channels of France Télévisions. After the change of channel of the program Vivement Dimanche by Michel Drucker, it is the news newspapers that will experience a profound change.

By September 2023, the national editions of 12/13 and 19/20 of France 3 will be abolished in favor of a new type of newspaper with a regional dimension, reports Le Parisien.

In an internal press release relayed by Pleine Vie, the management of the channel explained: “A new phase of regionalization will begin around the constitution of large slices of information entrusted to the regional teams, reflecting the news as close as possible to at home, elsewhere in France and on the other side of the world. This is part of the movement to regionalize the channel and further anchors France 3 as the channel of territories.”

These new information meetings will last 45 minutes and they will address “local, national and international news in a differentiated way (…) embodied from the regions by 24 faces of the regional branches of France 3”, according to the press release.

If the overall project was named Tempo, the newspapers will be named ICI Midi and ICI Soir and broadcast from the start of the 2023 school year.

However, this decision is far from unanimous since the National Union of Journalists (SNJ) described this decision as “ultimate betrayal”.

“The president suggests that these editions are only repackaging of reports from France 2, without any added value… Totally false! These editions have their own identity, but the president prefers to reduce this form of editorial pluralism of national information to nothing. , yet inscribed in the history of public service”, can we read in a press release from the union.
