(Los Angeles) The Boston Bruins have set two new records for most wins and points scored in a North American Ice Hockey League (NHL) regular season.

After a 63rd success Sunday in Philadelphia, the Bruins won their 64th victory of the season (in 81 games) by winning Tuesday against the Washington Capitals (5-2). They can take that record to 65 if they beat Montreal in their final regular season game on Thursday.

The previous record belonged to the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, who had 62 wins in 1995-96 and 2018-19 respectively.

But that record doesn’t necessarily bode well for the Bruins: Detroit and Tampa Bay failed to win the Stanley Cup, the supreme title, after their record regular season.

The Bruins also now total 133 points, bettering the record of 132 units set by Montreal in 1976-77. But the Quebec franchise had played “only” 80 games at the time.

“Our season is good, but what interests me more is the way we play and we play well,” insisted Bruins coach Jim Montgomery.

The Bruins have won the Stanley Cup six times, most recently in 2011.

The NHL playoffs begin on April 17.
