Record drought throughout the territory: what restrictions should be applied?

The situation is alarming. The month of July 2022 is “the driest we have had since July 1959”, declared the Minister for Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, at the microphone of France Bleu.

In question: the intense heat which has been raging in France for several months now, and the lack of precipitation which threatens many crops, but also increases the risk of fires. Météo France estimates, for its part, that the drought of the superficial soils is “the most severe ever recorded, beating that of 1976”.

Thus, on August 1, 93 departments out of 96 were placed on drought alert by Propluvia, the government body, and were therefore subject to restrictions to save water. A record figure, which worries specialists.
