(Paris) Rafael Nadal underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left hip on Friday to repair the injury that forced him to miss the French Open for the first time since winning the first of his 14 titles in Roland-Garros on his tournament debut in 2005.

Nadal’s spokesman, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, claimed that three doctors were involved in the surgery, which took place in Barcelona.

Perez-Barbadillo said he should be able to offer more details about the surgery on Saturday, Nadal’s 37th birthday.

The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since January, when he suffered a hip injury in a second round setback at the Australian Open.
