(Madrid) After the insults received on Sunday evening in Valencia by Vinicius, Real Madrid urged the Spanish football federation (RFEF) on Monday to act “sharply and immediately” against racism.

In a new statement issued on Monday evening, the Madrid club started by thanking the many “messages of support, solidarity and affection received from all over the world” for Vinicius, but stressed that “the lamentable events that unfolded on Sunday have goes around the world and puts our football to shame”.

Real then followed up with a tackle on RFEF president Luis Rubiales, who spoke earlier in the day to demand a “firm response” and to ask that “procedures do not lengthen so unjustified”.

“The statements of the president of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales surprise us, because being the highest manager of Spanish football and the refereeing hierarchy, he allowed us not to act in a sharp way, following FIFA protocols , to avoid getting to the situation that we experienced, “reacted Real Madrid.

“The referees, instead of acting firmly and applying the regulatory protocols, have decided in the majority of cases to inhibit themselves to avoid making the decisions that are incumbent on them”, denounced Real, ensuring that the cases racial slurs towards Vinicius “were repeated on numerous occasions during our matches”.

The Madrid club expressed concern that the RFEF “has not taken any action in all this time, despite the clear and repeated alarming signals” it has noted.

“The image of our football is seriously affected and deteriorated in the eyes of the whole world”, added the merengue club, which hopes that the competent bodies will act “in a sharp and immediate manner” to “combat these scourges of racism, xenophobia and hatred”.
