It’s a leaked dairy. A priori, nothing worries about the idea of a milk leak, a substance all in all not very intimidating… However, in Quimper in Finistère, this leak led to the establishment of a security perimeter around the factory concerned. Much of the hippodrome district is affected: the demarcation line extends within a radius of 100 meters from the dairy.

It all started when the locals smelled an unusual smell. They are now inside the secure area, awaiting the end of the firefighters’ intervention, which should last several hours. Traffic is therefore very heavily impacted in the area, and the repercussions are felt throughout the municipality: traffic jams are piling up.

According to Ouest France, the leak actually concerns a tank of hydrochloric acid, which explains the irritating smell perceived by passers-by. Hydrochloric acid is indeed used very frequently in various industries, in particular for the manufacture of food additives or gelatin. It is also a highly toxic and corrosive substance.

The leak was detected at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23. The teams at the Eurosérum-Candia plant immediately launched their internal operation plan. The firefighters have already mastered the source of the leak by now. No injuries are to be reported, and the confinement of staff and surrounding businesses is about to be lifted.
