Nostalgia continues to invade the PAF. After the winning return of Star Academy in 2022 on TF1, and the 20th anniversary of Nouvelle Star this year on M6, without forgetting the reunion of Charly and Lulu in the Hit Machine on W9, yet another program from the 2000s will soon be resurrected on our screens. This is the show Popstars, broadcast from 2001 to 2007 on the channel of Nicolas de Tavernost’s group.

After the dismal failure of the formula on D8 (ancestor of C8) in 2013, Amazon Prime Video revealed on June 19, 2023 the return of telecrochet on its platform. The musical show will be produced by DMLSTV and Adventure Line Productions, the audiovisual company headed by Alexia Laroche-Joubert, a former member of the jury ten years ago. If no broadcast date has been announced, here is the first information to know about the return of the cult show from the 2000s.

Since its first broadcast in France, Popstars has revealed numerous artists and singers. Among them, a few winners managed to break into music. While some shone as a group like the L5, others stood out solo like Matt Pokora, Sheryfa Luna and Chimène Badi (see our slideshow below).

For this new season of Popstars, new candidates will try their luck in the hope of following in the footsteps of these iconic artists. According to Le Parisien, filming for the 2024 edition would have started “in the greatest secrecy in the Paris region” this Sunday, November 12, 2023.

As in every telecrochet, music professionals will be on hand to host the castings and find their talents. “A jury made up of the greatest artists on the French music scene will meet to find the stars of tomorrow, coach them and offer them the chance to record their first titles,” we can read in the press release. “Together, they will sing, dance, evolve as a community, discover the backstage of a profession that they never thought they would pursue and whose codes have changed a lot in recent years.”

What form will this group take in this new edition of the musical competition? “Duo, trio, quartets… unisex or mixed… No preconceived objective of number or gender. It is the talents, their alchemy and personalities which will dictate the final choice of the group”. Enough to combine several genres and musical talents. Like any reality TV program, the new version of Popstars from Prime Video should be available in several parts of 40 minutes each.

Still according to Le Parisien, three stars of French song were recruited to join the jury and discover the talents of tomorrow. Among them, we find a child star revealed in another talent show on TF1, a star of the urban music scene and a young prodigy from the pop scene. Who are they ? Here it is in pictures in our slideshow.
