Plane crashes at Michael J. Smith Field; no injuries reported

BEAUFORT, Carteret County — A single-engine fixed-wing aircraft crashed into a fence at Michael J. Smith Field Saturday evening, according to Carteret County officials. The plane crashed into the fence and ended up in a ditch near Hwy 70, shortly after 7 p.m., officials tell us. No injuries have been reported at this time. The following agencies responded: Carteret Co. Emergency Services, Sheriff’s Office, Beaufort Fire and EMS, and Beaufort Police Department.
