Pierre Niney: 3 controversies that have marred the career of the famous actor

The stars are never safe from a bad buzz. And, Pierre Niney is no exception to the rule. A leading figure in French cinema, the famous 33-year-old actor has become popular with the public thanks to his leading roles in Yves Saint Laurent, Frantz and Sauver ou perir, the film of which is broadcast this Sunday, October 9, 2022 on France 2.

However, the one who played a Paris firefighter has been under fire from critics several times during his career. In the media or on social networks, the Caesarized actor never lacks humor to comment on the news. For better and for worse…

Last August, Pierre Niney took to his Twitter account to share the video of a subject on BFMTV, in which a witness gave his opinion on student precariousness in France. Quoting the excerpt below, the comedian made a joke about the physique of the student interviewed by the channel. “When I tell you that he is the best composition actor”, he wrote on the social network before immediately deleting his tweet, challenged by some Internet users. “Making humor about the precariousness of students… Very disappointing on your part”, “Well, precariousness is not funny, but the joke is super funny”, notably spotted our colleagues from Gala.

Faced with the reactions divided by his speech, Pierre Niney tried to put out the fire by apologizing. “Like a fool I hadn’t even looked at the subject of the report. But just saw the thumbnail with the face of this man and tweeted way too quickly. No desire to be indecent or hurtful”, he admitted in specifying. “I was only pointing out a resemblance to DiCaprio.” This is not the first time that the actor has been talked about on Twitter.

In March 2022, the 94th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles. An evening marked by the case of Will Smith’s slap in the face of comedian Chris Rock. The latter made a controversial allusion to the illness of the actor’s wife, Oscar winner for The Williams Method, suffering from alopecia.

A controversial gesture echoing resoundingly in the four corners of the Earth. On his Twitter page, actor Pierre Niney did not fail to react to the case, first quoting the message from American Jim Carrey. “I was sickened by the standing ovation for Will Smith after he punched Chris Rock onstage. Hollywood has no character. Will should have been kicked out and arrested. Chris doesn’t want to bother, I would have filed a complaint because this video will stay forever”.

In turn, the actor and spouse of Natasha Andrews condemned the slap of the American star in a second tweet. “What world do people live in who defend an act of physical violence in the face of a valve (no matter how bad)? Couldn’t Will Smith have responded to this valve? Answer with words? Is it really the values that you want to pass on to your children?”, reacted the father of two girls.

A speech that divided its audience under its publication. “When your wife has a disease and a guy will make” humor “at her expense several times on the subject, maybe you will understand”, protested a surfer. Then another joining the opinion of Pierre Niney. “Agree with you, a staggering affair, how to explain that not a single member of the social security intervened to embark Will Smith?”

At the start of his career, Pierre Niney was a resident at the Comédie-Française from 2010 to 2015. An institution for the actor who distinguished himself in several roles in classical theatre. During his early years, he had to juggle his fledgling career and his busy social life. A daily acrobat who almost got him into trouble.

In a video interview with Konbini published in September 2021, the former resident returned to the day when he had a wake-up call after a drunken evening. “I skipped that I was playing at 2 p.m. … I went out with some friends, and I came home at seven in the morning. And … I don’t know by what miracle, at 1:55 p.m., I wake up”, continuing. “I don’t even know why […] I check my phone. I see ‘Comédie-Française’ 76 times. I’m bleeding out.”

Realizing that he has to be on stage in 5 minutes, Pierre Niney hastily dresses to get to the theater in time. While the actor is expected to play in a play by Marivaux, the 30-year-old says he arrived on the spot by scooter 20 minutes late. “Finally, they waited for me, we played, I took a big blame,” he said, adding. “If you don’t come, you have to pay the room’s takings which is around 25,000 euros, I think, something like that. I don’t know if they had deducted something from my salary, it is even possible!”. A very salty bill that could have cost him his career.
