It was in November 2007, during a meal organized by the advertiser Jacques Séguéla, that Carla Bruni met the future President of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy. Although freshly divorced from Cécilia Attias, he asks her for her hand a few months later. On February 2, 2008, in a small conference room on the first floor of the Élysée Palace, Mayor François Lebel married them. This marriage took place without the publication of the banns so as not to disturb public order.
In an interview granted in 2011 to Nice-Matin, Carla Bruni confirms that she is pregnant. On October 19, 2011 at the Clinique de la Muette in Paris, the couple became the happy parents of a little girl named Giulia.
