Audrey Lamothe obtained the highest score of her career on the international scene, 239,5017, in a technical solo event, which allowed her to climb on the third step of the podium of the Super Final of the Swimming World Cup artistic of Oviedo, Friday, in Spain.

The Montrealer finished a few dusts behind the silver medalist, the Spaniard Iris Tio Casas (239 9299). The Japanese Yukiko Inui and double bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics, sits at the top of the standings with her 268,4217 points.

Even before receiving the verdict of the judges, Lamothe had the feeling of accomplishment.

“Today (Friday) I really wanted to perform well, do a clean routine and not have any point deductions. I was already very satisfied with my performance. […] I upped the difficulty level of my solo for this competition and it showed,” the 18-year-old pointed out.

The swimmer especially found her satisfaction in having presented her routine at the highest degree of difficulty of her career in front of international judges.

“I go there all the time for the performance first and then if the medal comes, for sure it’s a little bonus. »

Last March, the Quebecer won bronze medals in technical solo and free solo at the World Series stop in Markham, Ontario.

Later Friday, Quebecers Lauriane Imbeau (Quebec), Raphaëlle Plante (Quebec) and Florence Tremblay (Rimouski) joined forces with Sydney Carroll, Jonnie Newman, Kenzie Priddell, Claire Scheffel and Olena Verbinska to conclude the team competition fifth row mixed technique.

The Chinese (296,3834) ranked first.

Saturday’s free solo will be Lamothe’s last appearance on the international stage before the presentation of the World Aquatics Championships which will begin on July 14, in Fukuoka, Japan.

“There is always room for improvement and I still believe I can increase the difficulty level of my solo technique. I just can’t wait to see the nice improvements I can make. »

The action resumes on Saturday at the Parque del Oeste pools in Oviedo.
