Pension reform: your pension soon to be revalued?

April 13, 2023 marked the twelfth day of mobilization against the pension reform. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 380,000 demonstrators were present. The CGT reports to more than 1.5 million French people. On the sidelines of the procession, some strikers went to the Constitutional Council. Indeed, on April 14, this Council in turn examines the pension reform. Three solutions are possible following the consultation of the Elders: They can decide to adopt it in its entirety or to censor it partially or totally.

All the French are waiting for the Council’s decision. In the meantime, questioned at the microphone of FranceInfo, Renaud Villard, director general of the National old-age insurance fund (Cnav), already mentioned the rest of the steps if this text is definitively adopted. Indeed, the latter estimated that “1,800,000 people in all will be affected” by a revaluation of their small pension. But, what is the value of this increase? What are the terms?

Renaud Villard specifies that this revaluation will concern “more than a million” French people from next September. You will not have to do anything and this increase will be automatically applied to your September pension. You will be part of it if you have been retired for 10 to 20 years. However, the other 800,000 will only benefit from it from 2024.

Indeed, for the latter, who left more than 20 years ago, it would be more complicated to reconstruct their career according to the director general of the Cnav. Thus, “small works to be done to re-stabilize careers” are necessary. In both cases, this revaluation will be 60 to 80 euros for the majority of those concerned. It can nevertheless reach 100 euros for some.

In addition, Renaud Villard adds that the Cnav differs from the government’s decision. Its role is to apply decisions, not to comment on them. However, he concedes “that in the medium term, we have a growing imbalance”.

Before the application of this measure, all French people are waiting for the long-awaited decision of the Constitutional Council which will take place at 6 p.m. on April 14, 2023.
