Packers’screwed themselves’ in Aaron Rodgers drama, NFL Group exec States

The reported rift between Rodgers and the Packers appears to be growing Rather than shrinking

An anonymous NFL team executive weighed in on the tense situation between Aaron Rodgers along with also the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, and the play does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

The NFL executive told Fan Nation’s Packers Central the organization basically shot itself in the foot once handling Rodgers and his contract. The Packers chose not to convert a $6.8 million roster bonus into a signing bonus earlier in the offseason to get Rodgers, leaving the NFL MVP with no guaranteed money throughout the remainder of his contract, which runs through the 2023 season.

According to PackersNews.com, the absence of guaranteed cash on Rodgers’ contract would enable Green Bay to move on from the quarterback after the 2021 season if the organization was comfortable giving the reins into Jordan Love.

“They sort of screwed themselves,” the group executive told Packers Central. “You play with fire, you get burned. He is smart enough to know they did sort of hedge and essentially say,’If he is not playing this season, we’re going to move on.’ He is really wanting to call their bluff. To these, why should we guarantee beyond 2021? However, examine the circumstance. Since they didn’t do this, knowing who they’re dealing with, today they’re in a situation where the dude might not show up.”

The team exec said he’d have restructured Rodgers’ contract given how precious he is to any group.

“Denver’s so desperate for a quarterback, they do not care about paying him $30 million guaranteed a year because they need a quarterback,” he explained. “A quarterback’s contract is never not tradable unless they are awful, especially a guy like Aaron.”

The officer told the website he would move on from Rodgers when it got to a point where the quarterback is dedicated to remaining away from the group for good.

Rodgers allegedly place the idea of retirement on the dining table. He’s not publicly asked for a trade and the Packers have doubled back on their commitment to not move him.
