Over possible listeria contamination, ham and pepperoni products were recalled nationwide

Hornung recalled more than 230,000 pounds of meat products

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 200,000 pounds of prepared ham and pepperoni products are being recalled as they could be contaminated by harmful bacteria.

Alexander & Hornung, a business unit within Perdue Premium Meat Company, Inc., issued a recall after being notified that product sampling had shown positive results for listeria monocytogenes, according to the FSIS.

FSIS identified the 17 affected products , which were manufactured on different dates and shipped to retail outlets nationwide.

Alexander & Hornung stated that the FSIS will offer a distribution list for retail customers online “when available”.

“We are committed in producing the highest quality product. Therefore, out of an abundance caution, we have decided that we will recall a limited number of further processed items,” Gary Malenke (senior vice president of plant operations at Alexander & Hornung), told FOX Business.

The establishment number “EST” can be used to identify the affected products. M10125 is the USDA mark for inspection.

There have been no adverse reactions reported to date.

According to FSIS, listeriosis can be caused by food contaminated with L. monocytogenes. This is a serious infection that affects older adults and people with weak immune systems.

The FSIS stated that symptoms of listeriais include fever, stiff neck, headache, stiffness, convulsions, and muscle aches. These symptoms can also be accompanied by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

The FSIS stated that “serious and sometimes deadly infections can occur in older adults and people with weak immune systems.” The FSIS also added.

FSIS advises consumers to seek medical attention if they are worried about an injury or illness.
