No more advertising waste! It’s a small revolution in your mailboxes. From February 2023, in 15 communities selected on application, the State will experiment with the principle of “Oui Pub”, a small sticker to stick on to indicate to the postman that you wish to receive advertising. Otherwise, no prospectus will be distributed. It is therefore the opposite of the “Stop Pub”, introduced in 2004, which prohibited any advertising approach. So why such a turnaround?

“Oui Pub” is an experiment of the Climate and Resilience law of August 2021, inspired by the Citizen’s Climate Convention. According to the utility, its aim is to reduce waste and the costs associated with the collection and treatment of waste. On average, it is estimated that printed advertising is equivalent to 900,000 tonnes of paper per year, even though “this advertisement is thrown away without having been read”, explains the environment and energy management agency. at Service-Public.

The experiment should last three years and concerns 2.5 million inhabitants. The cities and towns selected are all of different sizes and areas, to represent the entire French territory. At the end of these three years, an evaluation committee will establish the impact of this system and its possible implementation throughout France. If you don’t want to receive ads, you don’t have to do anything. Conversely, if you wish, simply tape a printable “Oui Pub” sticker, or write it by hand. In our slideshow below, discover the 15 communities affected by the Oui Pub sticker.

According to information from Capital, the device which was to be tested from September 1, 2022 is finally postponed to February 2023.
