(Bad Homburg Vor Der Höhe) Poland’s Iga Swiatek advanced to the Bad Homburg Open quarter-finals by defeating Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday.

The French Open champion landed a kick between the legs to take a 3-2 lead in the first leg of the grass-court tournament. She closed the books after working for 79 minutes.

Swiatek saved three break points in her first serve game, but she didn’t face a similar situation until her last serve game of the match. The Pole made four of her five break chances against Teichmann.

Swiatek will now face Russia’s Anna Blinkova, who defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 in a second-round duel.

Earlier in the day, Katerina Siniakova beat Evgeniya Rodina 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals for the first time since suffering a wrist injury that kept her out for two month.

Siniakova will now cross swords with Liudmila Samsonova, the tournament’s second seed.

Lucia Bronzetti came from behind to defeat Mayar Sherif 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of a grass-court tournament for the first time. The Italian ranked 65th in the world will face the French Varvara Gracheva.
