Olivier Véran’s announcements: pension reform, Covid-19… The 5 points to remember

Emmanuel Macron appeals to the “boldness” of his ministers. At the end of the first Council of Ministers of this Wednesday, January 4, 2023, Olivier Véran, spokesperson for the government, affirmed that the President of the Republic wanted to reform to “respond to daily emergencies and future emergencies”. He also invited the members of the executive to “stay tuned to the concerns of the French”.

For her part, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne took advantage of this return to ask ministers to “resist the headwinds”, while a very busy schedule awaits the government for the next few weeks. In our slideshow below, discover all of Olivier Véran’s announcements at the end of this first Council of Ministers of the year 2023.

The month of January, in fact, is the month of all challenges. Inflation, retirement, Covid-19, electricity or even immigration… No subject will be spared. The first project is the very controversial pension reform, which must be presented by Elisabeth Borne on January 10, 2023. For the time being, the executive is trying to negotiate with the various social partners … As well as to obtain the support of the Republicans, for lack of an absolute majority in the National Assembly.

Over the next few weeks, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin will have to present his immigration bill to the Council of Ministers. The rise in energy prices, the continuation of inflation and the explosion of Covid-19 in China are also very worrying subjects at the start of the year.
