Norway’s king tested positive for COVID. He has mild symptoms

Norway’s King Harald V, 85 years old, tested positive for the coronavirus Tuesday. He has mild symptoms.

Harald will be taking a short break from his duties and Crown Prince Haakon, his son and heir of the throne would take over their duties, the royal household stated in a brief statement.

Harald has had three COVID-19 shots. However, he’s been sick several times in recent decades, including 2020, when he had an operation to replace his heart valve.

Harald is Norway’s head state, but his duties are solemn and he does not hold any political power. Following the death of King Olav his father on January 17, 1991, Harald was elevated to the throne.

Harald, the nation’s first native-born King since the 14th Century, married a prince from a commoner and won hearts by leading the 2011 mourning for the victims of Anders Behring Breivik.
