(Toronto) Anton Lundell provided two runs as the Florida Panthers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Thursday to take a 2-0 lead in the second-round series in the East.
Florida was down 2-0 when Lundell scored midway through the first period.
He was also part of Gustav Forsling’s goal – that after Aleksander Barkov’s goal, 19 seconds into the second period.
Forsling broke the tie at 1:06 in the second period.
Author of 34 saves, Sergei Bobrovsky was beaten by Ryan O’Reilly and Alexander Kerfoot.
Bobrovsky appears to have greatly regained form; towards the end of the regular season, he had lost his number one position to Alex Lyon.
Ilya Samsonov blocked 26 shots.
The Panthers will host Games 3 and 4 on Sunday and Wednesday.
Barkov leveled the score with a wrist shot from the right circle, after Anthony Duclair maneuvered well at the entrance to the zone.
From the same spot, Forsling converted a pass from Matthew Tkachuk’s left circle, after a turnover.
Tkachuk got his fourth assist in two games.
Maple Leafs’ William Nylander then hit the post twice, while John Tavares was stopped on a breakaway.
