NHL Playoffs | Kings, Wild and Hurricanes win

Read reports of NHL playoff games played on Monday night.

Alex Iafallo scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers to win their playoff opener on Monday night.

Iafallo scored a power play goal 9:19 into extra time by converting an assist from Victor Arvidsson from behind the net.

Adrian Kempe scored twice and Anze Kopitar had a goal and three assists for the Kings.

Kings goaltender Joonas Korpisalo made 38 saves in the game.

Leon Draisaitl replied with two goals and Evan Bouchard also shook the net for the Oilers.

Stuart Skinner stopped 31 shots in his NHL playoff debut.

The Oilers will try to tie in Game 2 on Wednesday in Edmonton.

Games three and four of this best-of-seven series will take place Friday and Sunday at Crypto.com Arena.

Ryan Hartman scored 12:20 into second overtime and the Minnesota Wild beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 in their playoff opener on Monday night.

Hartman collected the puck in front of the net and trumped Jake Oettinger around 1 a.m. local time, ending a game that lasted more than four hours in which both 24-year-old guards put in spectacular performances.

Filip Gustavsson stopped 52 shots for the Wild, including 12 in the third period and 17 in first overtime. He started the game over three-time Stanley Cup winner Marc-Andre Fleury after the goalie tandem split games for most of the season.

Oettinger made 45 saves for the Stars in his first playoff game since his 64-save performance in Game 7 of the First Round last May.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Dallas.

Sebastian Aho and Stefan Noesen scored on the power play to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in their first-round series.

Noesen’s deflection off Brent Burns’ shot proved to be the game-winning goal, 2:27 into the second half. Antti Raanta stopped 25 shots in the win.

The Hurricanes were perfect on four shorthanded runs, and held off the last minute and a half of play in his own territory when the Islanders pulled Ilya Sorokin for an extra forward.

Ryan Pulock beat Raanta early in the second period as the Islanders needed that late 2-0 goal. It was, however, the last goal scored in the match.

Sorokin finished the game with 35 saves for the Islanders, including a nice save midway through the third against Seth Jarvis.

The Hurricaines are in the playoffs for the fifth straight season. They won the last two games of their season to clinch the Metropolitan Division title for the third year in a row.

Mathew Barzal was back in the Islanders roster after missing the last 23 games with a lower-body injury.
