The scene is terrible. Tuesday June 14, in Guipry-Messac, a town in Ille-et-Vilaine near Rennes, a 3-year-old boy died in chilling circumstances. The toddler was alongside his father, a field operator, in his tractor when he fell. His body was immediately grabbed by the machine’s crusher. The child died on the spot.

Very quickly, technicians from the judicial police were mobilized to shed light on the tragedy. It would be an unfortunate accident.

“The three-year-old child was found dead today at 12:25 p.m. The preferred hypothesis is that of an accident,” said Philippe Astruc, the Rennes prosecutor.

The father, who was in the craft alongside a trainee, is not, for the time being, the subject of any prosecution.

In the region, it is the shock.

“It is a terrible agricultural drama. When we think of the age of the young victim, we all make the connections with our children or grandchildren. Here everyone knows each other, the agricultural world is shocked, “said the mayor of Guipry-Messac, Thierry Beaujouan, in the columns of Ouest France.

Unfortunately, this is not the first fatal tractor accident in France.

Last May, a 29-year-old young woman died after being hit by a machine in Dieupentale, in Tarn-et-Garonne. She was on the step of the agricultural vehicle when she tipped over, before being struck by one of the wheels.

The same day, in the department, a 41-year-old farmer was seriously injured after being run over by his own tractor.
