(Rome) Italian Matteo Berrettini has announced he will not be competing at the Rome Tennis Masters as he continues to recover from a torn stomach muscle.

In a message posted to his Instagram account on Friday, Berrettini explained that the results of his latest scan show he still needs at least a week before he can resume physical training.

Holder of the 21st rank in the ATP rankings, Berrettini suffered an oblique muscle injury during the Monte Carlo Masters about two weeks ago. He then forfeited before his round of 16 duel of this tournament, against Holger Rune.

His absence in Rome, his hometown, raises doubts about his presence at the French Open, which will begin on May 28 in Paris.

The Rome Masters, which will take place from May 10 to 21, is the last major tournament to be played on clay before Roland-Garros.
