(Rabat) Quebecer Leylah Fernandez advanced to the second round of the Moroccan Open by defeating Spaniard Angela Fita Boluda in two sets of 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday.

Fernandez, who hails from Laval, won 76.3% of his points on serve to Fita Boluda’s 64.9.

Fernandez also converted four of her eight break chances, although she gave two back to her opponent.

Fernandez will now cross swords with American Peyton Stearns in this clay-court tournament.

The Omnium of Morocco is an extra tournament for the French Open. The main draw of the second major tournament of the season will begin on Sunday.
