(Ottawa) Defensive lineman Michael Wakefield agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday.
Wakefield played in all 18 games for his team last year, finishing third on the team with six sacks.
Playing a fourth campaign with Ottawa, the Valdosta athlete totaled 35 tackles.
Wakefield signed the new deal on his 29th birthday.
“This year will be special,” Wakefield said, in a statement. I’m signing this contract on my birthday and I can’t wait to continue. There is a great sense of unfinished business and plenty of fish to catch. » Wakefield played with the Montreal Alouettes in 2021 and 2022, recording seven sacks in two seasons. He wore the Ottawa uniform from 2017 to 2019.
In 84 games in the Canadian League, he accumulated 134 tackles, 20 sacks and an interception.
