(Kamloops) Kyle Crnkovic scored a hat trick as the Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Peterborough Petes 6-3 on Saturday in Day 2 of the Memorial Cup.

The 21-year-old Albertan completed his hat-trick in an empty net.

The Petes led 2-1 late in the second period before Crnkovic’s first goal, which scored again midway through the third period.

Lucas Ciona, Nolan Allan and Jordan Gustafson also scored for the winners.

Ciona is a Calgary Flames prospect. Allan is with the Chicago Blackhawks organization, while Gustafson was drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Petes’ second goal came from Owen Beck, the Montreal Canadiens’ second-round pick last year.

J.R. Avon and Avery Hayes also found the back of the net.

Winning goaltender Thomas Milic made 23 saves, 11 less than Michael Simpson.

On Sunday night, the Petes will face the tournament hosts Kamloops Blazers. Each club has escaped its first match.

Monday night, the Quebec Remparts will face the T-Birds.

Both teams won their first meeting.
