On December 14, 2022, the famous film Manon de sources was broadcast on Arte, directed by Marcel Pagnol in 1952. A feature film which highlighted his wife and muse Jacqueline Pagnol in the title role of Manon alongside the actors Raymond Pellegrin, Rellys , Henri Poupon and Anne Roudier.
Four years after the release of this film and after starring in Henri Verneuil’s Carnival and Jean Boyer’s The Terror of the Ladies, actress Jacqueline Pagnol decided to end her career at the age of 34. “Marcel had just given up the cinema. And I preferred to stay by his side rather than run the sets. Life with him was exciting! In 1986, the director Claude Berri in turn directed the film Manon des sources, the sequel to Jean de Florette and adapted from the second volume, L’Eau des collines by Marcel Pagnol. For the title role, actress Emmanuelle Béart was chosen.
