The British Man Booker prize for literature this year goes to the Northern Irish author Anna Burns. The 56-Year-old was awarded on Tuesday evening in London for her novel “the Milkman”. In the book it’s about a 18-year-old girl in Northern Ireland, the civil war and their experiences with sexual coercion, sectarian conflicts and social constraints.
Burns did the voice of the “funny, resilient, sharp-witted, open the” I-Narrator implemented in a strong and convincing to the Jury.
Burns was surprised by the award. In a short speech, she thanked her agents, publishers and friends. “Oh my God, I’m better,” she said, before she stormed breathlessly of the stage.
The Man Booker prize is the most important British literature. He is endowed with 50,000 pounds (about 57,000 euros). Will be awarded to authors who write in English and whose works appear in the UK. The trophy was presented by the wife of the British heir to the throne Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla,.
In the past year, the American George Saunders won the Man Booker prize for literature. He received the award for his debut novel, “Lincoln in the Bardo”. Previous winners include Margaret Atwood and Salman Rushdie.
